Learning Golf as an Adult: The Swing Trainer That’s Helping Me Improve
Updated: Sep 3
As I get older, I’ve been thinking more about finding sports and hobbies that I can enjoy for years to come. Golf is one of those things that has been on my list for a while.
I want to be able to play golf with my husband, enjoy it with friends, and hopefully keep playing for many years. And, of course, it would be nice to actually be good at it!
Since I’m still learning, I’ve been looking for simple ways to practice my swing at home. That’s where this golf swing trainer has come in.
Why I Want to Learn Golf
One of the things I love about golf is that it’s something you can continue doing as you get older.
I’m always looking for ways to stay active, but I also want to find activities that I can enjoy socially.
Golf checks both of those boxes.
It’s something I can do with my husband, play with friends, and hopefully continue enjoying for years and years.
The only problem? I need to actually learn how to swing correctly first!
A Simple Way to Practice Your Golf Swing
This swing trainer is designed to help you practice your grip, hand placement, swing, and follow-through.
The handle is one of my favorite features because it has guides that show you where to put your hands and fingers.
When you’re learning golf, there are so many little things to think about. Where should my hands go?
How should I hold the club? Am I following through correctly?
Having those guides built right into the handle makes it easier to understand the proper positioning.
The Ball Helps With Your Swing
There’s also a small ball attached to the trainer, which is designed to help you practice your swing and follow-through.
You can hold the trainer in the correct position, swing, and work on getting that consistent motion.
It gives you something to focus on while you're practicing instead of just swinging a club and wondering if you’re doing it correctly.
And yes, I quickly learned that I need a little more space when practicing! 😂
I may or may not have hit a wall while filming.
Practicing Your Follow-Through
One of the biggest things this has helped me think about is my follow-through.
You want your swing to have a smooth, consistent motion, and the trainer gives you a way to practice that movement.
The attached ball moves with your swing, giving you some feedback as you practice your positioning and follow-through.
For someone who is still learning, I like having that physical feedback because it helps me understand what the movement should feel like.
Adjustable and Easy to Use
Another nice feature is that you can adjust the trainer, which makes it easier to find a position that works for you.
It’s also simple enough that you don’t need a huge setup or a golf course to practice.
That makes it a convenient option when you want to work on your swing at home.
My Kids Love It Too
And, of course, anything that my kids can enjoy too is a win in my house.
My kids have actually loved playing with this golf swing trainer!
So while I bought it because I wanted to improve my golf game, it has turned into something the whole family can play around with.
That makes me feel like I’m getting even more use out of it.
Is a Golf Swing Trainer Worth It for Beginners?
If you’re new to golf like me, I think having a simple tool that lets you practice the basics can be really helpful.
You can work on:
Your hand and finger placement
Your grip
Your swing
Your positioning
Your follow-through
Building muscle memory
Getting more comfortable with the motion
It doesn't replace actually playing golf or getting instruction, but it gives you an easy way to practice the movement between rounds or lessons.
I'm Determined to Get Better at Golf
I’m definitely a beginner, but I’m excited to keep learning.
For me, golf is less about becoming an amazing golfer overnight and more about finding something I can enjoy long-term.
I want to be able to play with my husband, spend time with friends, stay active, and have a sport that I can continue enjoying as I get older.
And if I can get better along the way, even better!
This swing trainer has given me a simple way to practice at home, and I’m excited to see if all of this practice actually translates to a better golf swing on the course.
Final Thoughts
If you’re also getting into golf and are looking for a way to practice your swing at home, a swing trainer like this can be a fun addition to your golf gear.
I love that it helps with the fundamentals without requiring a big setup, and the fact that my kids enjoy it too is an added bonus.
Now I just need to keep practicing—and maybe move a little farther away from the walls next time. 😂
Here's to learning something new, staying active, and hopefully becoming a pretty decent golfer along the way! ⛳️
