Ergobaby Metro+ vs. Baby Jogger: Which Travel Stroller Is Better?
If you’re a mom who travels with kids, you probably have a lot of opinions about travel strollers.
I know I do.
I’m a mom of three, and after traveling with kids, navigating airports, walking through European cities, and trying to get strollers into tiny spaces, I’ve learned that the perfect travel stroller really depends on the age of your child and how you’re planning to use it.
Two of the travel strollers I’ve used are the Ergobaby Metro+ and the Baby Jogger travel stroller, and I actually own both for a reason.
They’re both fantastic travel strollers, but I use them differently.
So if you’re trying to decide between the Ergobaby Metro+ vs. Baby Jogger, here’s my honest comparison.

Ergobaby Metro+ vs. Baby Jogger: The Quick Answer
If you just want my quick answer:
For a baby or younger child: I prefer the Ergobaby Metro+.
For an older toddler: I prefer the Baby Jogger.
And if you're traveling internationally, especially somewhere like Europe, I have a pretty strong preference for the Ergobaby because of one feature that I didn't realize would become so important:
the backpack.
Let's get into why.
1. Both Are Great Travel Strollers
The first thing you'll notice when you see these two strollers next to each other is how similar they are in size.
Both fold down incredibly small, and both can be packed up to take with you when you're traveling.
That is the entire reason I love these types of strollers.
When you're traveling with kids, you don't want to bring a giant stroller that takes up your entire trunk or becomes a nightmare to get through an airport.
You want something that folds up small, is easy to transport, and can still be used comfortably once you arrive.
Both of these check those boxes.
2. The Ergobaby Metro+ Has a Backpack
This is probably one of my favorite things about the Ergobaby Metro+.
When it's folded up, you can put it into its backpack and carry the stroller on your back.
And if you've ever traveled through Europe with kids, you know why this matters.
There are plenty of older buildings, museums and castles where elevators aren't available or aren't convenient.
Being able to fold up your stroller, put it on your back, and walk up stairs is SO much easier than carrying a stroller by your side.
The Baby Jogger has a strap that allows you to carry it, including across your body, which definitely helps.
But personally, I prefer having the Ergobaby on my back.
It feels much more comfortable when you're walking around for a while.
3. The Ergobaby Metro+ Is Better for Babies
This is probably the biggest difference for me.
I prefer the Ergobaby Metro+ for babies, especially during that first year.
The seat can recline much farther back, and you can essentially turn it into more of a bassinet-style setup.
There are tabs that fold in to create that flatter bassinet feel.
For me, that's a huge advantage when you're traveling with a baby.
If your baby is going to nap in the stroller, having the ability to lay them back more comfortably makes a big difference.
That's why if you asked me:
"Which stroller would you buy for a newborn?"
I'd pick the Ergobaby.
4. The Ergobaby Has Better Storage
I also prefer the storage situation on the Ergobaby Metro+.
The basket feels a little bigger and easier to access.
I also use part of the stroller as a little pocket for things while we're out.
That's one of those features you don't necessarily think about when you're shopping for a stroller.
Then you travel with kids and suddenly you're carrying:
Diapers
Snacks
Water bottles
Sunscreen
Jackets
Toys
Random things your children handed you
So having somewhere convenient to put all of that is really helpful.
5. I Like the Ergobaby's Shade Better
Another little detail I noticed is the shade.
The Ergobaby has really nice shade coverage, and it comes down farther.
For a baby, I really appreciate that extra protection.
It makes the stroller feel a little more cozy and protected when you're out walking around in the sun.
6. The Baby Jogger Is Lighter
Now let's talk about where the Baby Jogger wins.
Weight.
The Baby Jogger is the lighter stroller.
If your biggest priority is finding the absolute lightest travel stroller possible, I'd lean toward the Baby Jogger.
When you're already carrying a child, diaper bag, luggage and everything else, every little bit of weight matters.
The Ergobaby does feel a little more substantial to me. The straps feel thicker and more secure, and the materials feel a little softer.
So there's a bit of a tradeoff:
Baby Jogger = lighter
Ergobaby = feels a little more substantial
7. The Baby Jogger Is Great for Older Toddlers
This is where my opinion changes.
Once my kids get a little older, I actually prefer the Baby Jogger.
I don't need quite as much recline, and I don't need the bassinet-style setup.
For an older toddler who is mostly sitting upright, the Baby Jogger makes a lot of sense.
So my ideal setup would be:
Baby: Ergobaby Metro+
Toddler: Baby Jogger
And that's actually why I have both.
8. The Ergobaby Has an Adjustable Handle
Here's another small feature I really like about the Ergobaby.
The handle extends.
I'm taller, so being able to extend the handle makes it more comfortable for me to push.
The Baby Jogger doesn't have that same handle extension.
If you're taller, this is definitely something I'd consider.
It may seem like a tiny feature, but when you're pushing a stroller around for hours, ergonomics matter.
9. Folding the Strollers
Both strollers fold down pretty easily, but they have slightly different mechanisms.
With the Ergobaby, I like that I can fold it with one hand.
There are a couple of extra steps to get it completely flattened, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.
One thing I REALLY like is that I've been able to put the folded Ergobaby in the overhead compartment and even put another baby carrier or baby item in with it.
That's a huge win when you're trying to maximize every inch of space while traveling.
The Baby Jogger also folds compactly, but it has its own additional step to get it completely flattened.
10. Can the Ergobaby Become a Double Stroller?
Here's one of the most interesting things I discovered about the Ergobaby.
If you have two kids, you can actually use the reclined seat area in a creative way to accommodate another child.
I've put one child in the stroller while another child stands/holds onto the stroller.
I want to emphasize that this is not something I'd consider the safest or intended way to use the stroller, so I'm not recommending it as a double stroller.
But it is something I've done when traveling and needed to get two kids from point A to point B.
The Baby Jogger doesn't give you quite the same option because it doesn't recline as far.
So Which Travel Stroller Should You Buy?
After using both, here's how I would break it down.
Buy the Ergobaby Metro+ if...
I'd choose the Ergobaby Metro+ if you're looking for a stroller for:
A newborn or young baby
The first year
Babies who nap in the stroller
International travel
European vacations
Museums and castles
Families who want a backpack carrying option
Parents who want more recline
Parents who want more storage
Taller parents who appreciate an adjustable handle
For me, this is the stroller I'd pick for a baby.
Buy the Baby Jogger if...
I'd choose the Baby Jogger if you're looking for:
A lightweight travel stroller
An older toddler stroller
Something easy to carry
A compact stroller for travel
A stroller for walking around cities
Something simple and easy to maneuver
For me, this is the stroller I'd pick once my child is a little older.
Ergobaby Metro+ vs. Baby Jogger: My Final Verdict
If I had to choose only one, I think I'd base the decision entirely on the age of my child.
For 0–1 year: Ergobaby Metro+
For 1+ year: Baby Jogger
I genuinely love having both because they serve different purposes.
The Ergobaby wins for me when I want a stroller that feels more comfortable for a baby, has better recline, has more convenient storage, and can be carried as a backpack.
The Baby Jogger wins when I want something lighter and I'm traveling with an older toddler who doesn't need all of those baby-specific features.
And if you're going to Europe?
I really love having the Ergobaby backpack.
Being able to fold up your stroller, put it on your back and walk up the stairs in an old European museum or castle is one of those things that you don't appreciate until you're actually doing it.
The Best Travel Stroller Is the One That Fits Your Family
I don't think there's one travel stroller that is perfect for every family.
It depends on your child's age, whether they nap in the stroller, how much you're going to carry it, and where you're traveling.
For our family, having two lightweight travel strollers has actually made sense because they work better for different ages.
And honestly, anything that makes traveling with kids a little easier is a win in my book.
